We took our piggie bank Smashed it against the wall And how we sank down As we counted it all Why should I try? Why should I care anymore? Why should I pick up brown pennies off the floor? I wanna build it too A rocket to space Can you feel gravity keeping us down And in place? Why should I try? Why should I care anymore? Why should I pick up brown pennies off the floor? In real life I know In real time I know That the world feels so good And fine Why should I try? Why should I care anymore? Why should I pick up brown pennies off the floor? In real life I know In real time I know That the world feels so good And fine

When I see the clouds of yellow Drifting down in my neighborhood I breathe a little deeper and think about summer Rain makes the streets psychedelic Pollen drifts and swirls and floats away Ride that wave straight into May Then it will be summer We’ll swim in the dirty river Drink beer every day Thoughts drift to when I was younger Driving past Durham County Line Windows rolled down Nothing on my mind Then it will be summer We’ll swim in the dirty river Drink beer every day I love the summer

And all the movie stars Came in their best clothes And all the crazy fans came from so far Just to get too close And all the rich carpets Rolled out for painted feet And all the cameras flashed for the big artists Until they took their seat It was a galaxy of pretty people Planets floating in the sky A bowl of oranges spilling on the carpet Outside And all the big screens Shined like a watermelon seed And all the hands clapped For that 2d dream that they keep selling It was a galaxy of pretty people Planets floating in the sky A bowl of oranges spilling on the carpet Outside

Every painter needs a paintbrush Just like just like I need you Every seashell needs a seashore Just like I need you Green ceilings in grand central station Green feelings cant be painted Every bridge over every river Feels like I'm not over you Every book about everything Feels like its about you Green ceilings in grand central station Green feelings can’t be painted Green feelings are not painted

She sat in the window seat Wrapping tea cups with old newspapers and putting them in boxes Everything she’d ever wanted Was packed up and put away She thought she saw his face in a magazine Walked around her neighborhood Wondering what became of her life A wife She thought she’d have it all She thought his name was Fred He passed her every morning on his bicycle Pedaling towards the station That took him to the city Where he worked for an accounting firm Pushing numbers round on a screen He looked around his cubicle Wondering what became of his life The strife He thought he’d have it all She sat in the window seat He looked around his cubicle Don't you give up! Two strangers passing on the avenue Sharing commonalities And ignoring architecture Purple was the color of their love

Could a folk singer’s manipulation Get past those gloomy cerulean eyes Oh I hope so Could the soft hills of the Tar Heel State Be wrapped by that line in the sky Oh I hope so Bluer than blue sky Feels like an upside down ocean I would look at the starfish Stuck in slow motion Could the azure achievements Of besting the boys be simply busy work? Oh I hope so Bluer than blue sky Feels like an upside down ocean I would look at the starfish Stuck in slow motion Alright Sand in my eyes I’m bluer than blue So blue they invented a new color so you Could understand the shape I’m in I’m bluer than blue Bluer than that lonely whale in Washington That sings his lonely song I’m bluer than blue I’m so blue they wrote a song about me And they called it blue

There was the night sky Covered with black holes There was a satellite Among the lost souls And as the milky way turned off It was a dark bus stop where i got off There was the undercloud Over the black trees There was a monsoon Dried fish with grilled teeth And by the deep cave waterfall I watched a jungle sunset snakes and all Na na na na na na na I’m not a quitter baby There was the middle ages With robes and (unintelligible) queens There was a long pandemic There was a quick guillotine And in the stained cathedral window I heard those sad voices Of hell below Na na na na na na na I’m not a quitter baby (Our favorite flute solo) I’m not a quitter baby

There’s a book for every line There’s a friend for any time But there’s a color I can’t find There’s a coin that I could flip There’s a spot but its just a blip But there’s a shade that does not exist I told the seamstress ‘bout the rainbow in the sky Make you a sweater with all the colors sewn inside And don’t forget the indigo dye There’s a joke where I could laugh There’s a story about my past But there’s a color that does not last I’m your freighter In a rainstorm I’m your waiter When the coffee isn’t warm I told the seamstress ‘bout the rainbow in the sky Make you a sweater with all the colors sewn inside And don’t forget the indigo dye I’m your freighter In a rainstorm I’m your waiter When the coffee isn’t warm I told the seamstress ‘bout the rainbow in the sky Make you a sweater with all the colors sewn inside And don’t forget the indigo And don’t forget the indigo And don’t forget the indigo dye

White Light 03:38
Every day at four she asks me what's for dinner I want to make the most of our time together It seems to take forever To find the place we could call home Hold on, I’m right behind you Let’s let the white light shine through our windows Let’s hold out our arms and love each other Blinking like a star we can see no longer our words become a ghost But we should of known better You don’t have to explain or question the design Let's watch the whole night sky move Let’s let the white light shine through our windows Let’s hold out our arms and love each other. I hope you know what you’re doing with my heart I hope the days will last until we depart (Another amazing flute solo) Lets let the white light Shine through our windows I hope you know what you’re doing with my heart I hope the days will last until we depart . The corn was knee high by the Fourth of July I wanted to tell you

about

Colors are meant to be seen. What if they are meant to be heard?

This album was written during the Covid-19 pandemic. James was in the US with a baby. Daniel was in France in a garden shed. There were four failed album ideas before this one: infant piano preludes, emotion surveys, months of the year, plant songs. In Colors almost experienced a similar fate. Our third wheel rolled away. We had to finish it ourselves or start over. The garden grew. The baby became a toddler.

Instruments used: voice, flute, treated acoustic guitar, electric bass, Fender Rhodes Mk 1, Casio MT-35, Yamaha MX49 drums, Multivox MXD-5
